HELP! How do you tell a guy friend that you only want to be friends and nothing more?

I know that my guy friend likes me beyond friendship. He keeps asking me to go on dates with him and hinting at when we are going to get together. The problem is that I really like him a lot as a friend and nothing more. I don't know how to tell him without hurting his feelings that I only want to be friends. I'm afraid that he will get mad and just stop talking to me completely.HELP! How do you tell a guy friend that you only want to be friends and nothing more?
I had to do this yesterday actually. I asked to go on a walk with him. Then I brought it up. I told him that i felt like i had been giving him the wrong idea, that i just wanted to be friends, and when he asked why i told him that i was just happy at the time with us being friends. Let him know that you respect him, and care about him, but you just wanted to make sure you werent misleading him. when you tell him that, it will make him feel like it was more your fault he got the wrong idea instead of him, which will make him feel better. and be clear that you value his friendship and still want to be friends.
