How can i tell my guy friend that i just want to be friends?

i have been trying to get over one of my close friends. he has told me that we are really good friends when i told him that i liked him. we normal talk a lot but lately it has quieted down. how can i tell him that i just want to be friends? also i am bad at recognizing when i am flirting, so how can i talk to him like close friends would and without him thinking that i am still trying to flirt with him?How can i tell my guy friend that i just want to be friends?
You need to be honest with him. Sit him down or pull him aside and tell him you just want to be friends and if you give misleading hints like flirting casually, warn him not to think you're flirting. Explain to him that you do it unintentionally and you don't mean any harm by it. just tell him that you recognize that you both should be friends and that you want to make sure there is nothing weird between you. be open and honest, but make sure you do this when there are not distractions so you can make it clear that you are ok with friendship.
